Membership

The Rotary Club of Henley Bridge is always looking for potential members and invites those interested in joining the Rotary movement to contact one of the officers of the club. The club is open to members of either gender and there is no age restriction. The club meets at Badgemore Park Golf Club at 19.30 for 20.00 every Wednesday.

25th Anniversary Celebration

The club celebrated the anniversary the River and Rowing Museum on  May 10th 2008 when over 100 people including many past Presidents, attended  a special dinner and celebration.

Henley Half Marathon

In 2003 the Rotary Club of Henley Bridge took over the management of the well known RNLI Henley Half Marathon which takes place in mid October each year. This long standing event reached its 25th anniversary in 07 when some 2200 runners entered. The event starts with a run through Henley and then south of the river for some 6 miles before returning and heading north back over the Chiltern hills at Fawley before ending at the Rugby Club. Runners can also enter online via www.runnersworld.co.uk  using credit cards. The profits raised at the event was split between RNLI and Rotary Charities.

The HQ and start/finish for this event is the Rugby Club at Dry Lees, Marlow Road, Henley. Entry forms are available on line from www.henleyhalfmarathon.org.uk    The full results are available from this web site shortly after the event.

Besides the Half Marathon there is a 10K (originally called the Fun Run) over a more limited distance and open to all ages. Some 250 entered for this event  which starts with the Half Marathon but terminates near Leander Club. Again entry forms can be downloaded from the above web site.

Kalmunai  District 1090  Tsunami schools project gets under way

On New Years Eve 05 both Rotary Clubs and Rotaract raised £6400 from the Henley residents, with the valuable assistance of Waitrose. This was in addition to Aquaboxes to the value of £5000. The Club with other clubs in District 1090, built a new school in Sri Lanka, and have supplied and equipped the school which was completed on budget in late 07  It has some of the best facilities of any school in Sri Lanka including computer rooms for both boys and girls. The project operated in conjunction with the Rotary Club of Kalmunai.

Sue Ryder Fireworks Night - another record smashed !!

The biggest Henley Bonfire Night with Fireworks celebrates Halloween Night and is held and in aid of  Sue Ryder Care at the Sue Ryder Care Home in Nettlebed  The event now features a Halloween theme and has two dress competitions for young childrenIn 20067 the event raised again over £15,000

Bad Oldesloe

Our friends from the Rotary Club of Bad Oldesloe  will visit Henley  over the weekend 14 October 2008 to assist the club with the Henley Half Marathon'

Gala Concert

Gala Concerts are held at irregular intervals usually for International charities. In 2006 a concert  featured the award winning Reading Male Voice Choir was held at St Mary’s Church, Henley on Thames in February 2006 a.   The proceeds of this event ,£2,550  to  Mercy Ships, a global charity that offers free medical services to the world’s poor of any faith.  in 2007 RIBI are funding an Ophthalmic surgery at a cost of £250,000  In the 25 years of its existence Mercy Ships has completed 12,000 surgical operations and given more than 30 million dollars of medical equipment to communities in Africa and South America. The medical staff donate their time free.

Visit to/from St Hilaire, Normandy

Members of the Club will visit St. Hilaire du Harcoeut  in 2009 as part of an regular exchange ..

Fun and Fellowship

A feature of the club is the numerous fun and fellowship activities which range from Sunday lunches and walks to social golf

Life Educational Centre

We, with a number of  other Rotary Clubs in South Oxfordshire and other service organisations, have funded several LEC mobile cabins to visit  the schools in the Thames Valley area. A joint programme between Rotary, the Police and the Schools it is a long term programme to influence children from an early age of the effects of various substances including smoking, alcohol and drugs. The first Oxfordshire LEC arrived  early in 2000.the second and third units have now entered service each with a dedicated teacher.

Ambassadorial Scholars

The club are always active with the many students who come to study at Oxford and Reading Universities
